August is #womenintranslation month. The reason this online movement began a few years ago is the relatively smaller number of women writers getting translated across languages compared to men writers. There is a little bit of history in the first bit of the article.

So my short stories column at PopMatters this month has five stories by award-winning women writers from across the world, translated by women translators. All are free to read online. Enjoy.

The writers and their translators are:

Olga Tokarczuk (tr. Jennifer Croft)

Sayaka Murata (tr. Ginny Tapley Takemori)

Mahasweta Devi (tr. Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak)

Malika Moustadraf (tr. Alice Guthrie)

Dorthe Nors (tr. Misha Hoekstra)
